Foreword - Keith Medlycott
T20 cricket has certainly captivated cricket lovers from all over the World with its innovations, television coverage, power hitting, bowling skills and amazing fielding performances. It has also energised other formats which have now regularly seen scoring rates increase in longer matches and the reason for this is two-fold.
The first is alleviating the fear factor from the players. The format allows players to take risk in order to succeed. The second, which is vital, is that players train with more purpose in these specialised skill areas. Range hitting, reverse hitting, scoops, different slower balls and all pace Yorkers make each session full of intent.
This now gives young players an opportunity to express themselves and explore the limits of their game much earlier than in the past.
The In Touch T20 festival has been a revelation for the many boys that have competed over the last few seasons. It combines coaching sessions with all important match play in a fun and competitive competition.
I have been fortunate to have watched the festival grow and to have seen some outstanding high quality performances, both as a team and the individual. The festival has provided the highest level of coaching and mentoring from former International and First Class cricketers that all players can engage with as a further tool to develop their game.
When you put all of these components together combined with the quality of the facilities available, I have no doubt that this festival, under Matt’s leadership, will continue to go from strength to strength and will provide a fantastic pathway for many aspiring young cricketers to fulfil their dreams!
Remember to live your dreams and I wish you all good luck in the future!
A key element of the festivals is that teams can stay on site throughout the week in accommodation at Epsom College which is a great learning experience of touring both on and off the pitch and to be part of an ongoing competition with both teammates and coaches. There will also be an option for local non residential teams to enter the festival. Epsom College facilities host impressive boarding houses with own in house caterers providing three meals a day as part of the package.
Touring residential teams have the option to arrive early to prepare for the festival and utilise the practice facilities at the college with nine astro turf nets available. Swimming pool use is also available on request for residential teams.
